Starrett too , Ive had both and they are both well over twenty years old.

I would have recommended Starrett, I have an old "made in the USA" one that is awesome.
However, I bought an identical one as a backup, but Starett have "economised" their manufacturing process, I think I'm on my third replacement now for that one.
So I would suggest to avoid them now.
One thing you could look at is something like a "spring tools" centre punch.
They are not automatic or one-handed operation, but there is little to go wrong with them.

The eclipse aren’t a patch on the old ones.

either something old, or treat them as consumables...i buy cheap ones for my tool box in work, but at home i have an old starrett

mine are all old most of my stuff is bought years ago from autojumble proper stuff
I never found them to be any use. They are very hard to hold in the correct place when they pop and the mark they leave is insufficient to centre a drill.
The only use I would have for one is to break a toughened windscreen in an emergency.
I find it's hard to beat a hammer and centre punch to give a decent start for a drill.

You do have access to some great tools in Australia; when visiting family in Perth once every several years I'll normally request a visit to a tool store - brother in law is happy to oblige and join me!

I’ve got a cheap no brand Screwfix/Toolstation one and a starrett 18A bought on an Amazon deal.
Both do what they need to, I’ve heard the starrett quality isn’t what it was but it feels a league above the generic one I have in feel. But to be honest I’ve got no complaints with either.
They tend to work best if you have scribe lines for them to drop into but I mainly use them mainly for mounting din rail and electrical items on electrical panel back plates so just line them up with pen marks.

I've had a Bahco 1157 for a few years now and it's really good. No slop and nice and pointy so doesn't dance when you push it down. I don't do a huge amount of stuff so can't speak to longevity though.
I'd echo the other thoughts on a centre punch and gentle persuader vs automatic as well
