Woah, I posted to the wrong forum. Boy if I can't get that right, what hope sticking metal together .
After much consideration I purchased a Weldsmart 140 inverter. Right price, good amp range, quality, who knows, (watch this space). Experienced welders laughed at the size, think kitchen toaster, but were impressed by the performance. A pack of rods is heavier than the welder. Ah well she'll be right mate.
