Hi everyone,
Long story short, the turbo in my Audi A3 2.0tdi went two weeks ago, I replaced it with a fully recon one I found online.
the replacement went well with no fitment issues. Until I took it for a test drive :/.
The turbo is didn't seem like it was working at all. Then after getting it up to temp I realised it was beginning to work at around 2500rpm-3000rpm. Rather than working at 1500rpm.
I check for boost leaks etc. Usual stuff. Then checked the turbo under the car. I tested the actuator with a bit of pipe. Started on the old one and I could suck it to move most of it travel. Then onto the new one and it barely moves. In fact, on closer inspection actuator seem to be pulled much further down than the other unit.
The first pic is the old turbo. Notice the gap between the turbo arm thing and the stop.
Then look st the gap between the new turbo, there's no suction pipe on at this point so it has no reason for being that closed.
Does anyone have any ideas?
The new turbo actuator does move as well. Just not far.
