Audi a1 warning light

Just come on, steady not flashing, engine symbol. Mpg recently dropped from 45 to 30. Has become hesitant on initial accelerator pedal push but picks up.
Will get it booked in for diagnostics tomorrow.
Any ideas? O2 sensor, maybe?

If it is - the EGR valve of our civic caused limp mode and was almost completely clogged, but wasn't a difficult job to clean

Sounds like a symptom my Wife's A1 had. Check your antifreeze coolant reservoir level.

Have just checked, that's fine. Wouldn't effect mpg though, would it?

Well, update on this.... Been in this morning to a local independent v.a.g. specialist. Their words "various sporadic faults" have been cleared using v.a.g. com. Nothing done or replaced. Driving great again and back up to 50m.p.g. if the light comes on again they'll look deeper. I would rather them had found something to be honest. Is this sort of thing common?

They mentioned if it comes back they'll plug it into Odis system. But it has been on vagcom today, which I thought would give codes.

If the light is on it will have a code, even if the light goes out it will leave a non active fault code.

Yeah I thought that. They just told me "various sporadic faults"....if it comes on again I'll probs go somewhere else. Would a cheap obd 11 reader tell me the fault codes? Since the reset though my mpg has jumped back up to 50!

Cheap readers are cheap for a reason….I bought my VCDS kit from Gendan over £200 worth for my Passat est.
Without codes you’re ******* in the wind….better to pay for someone with the right kit to get the codes, then it’s down to interpreting the info for a diagnosis.

Cheap obd readers don't necessarily talk to all car makes and models.

Engine management light back on again...it lasted a couple of weeks. I will try to get it booked in for an Odis diagnostic check. I don't just want it turning off again. I would like to know what the problem is this time!

VCDS is good - I got the unlimited Hexnet version
