Attempted break in

Went out this morning to find the stable door kicked in. Connecting door between stables and workshop also kicked in, and damage to the main workshop door too. Impressively police turned up within an hour of ringing them!

Nothing missing, but now have to make a new set of doors

Camera shows the little turd arriving at 1:20 this morning, spotting the camera and cutting the cables

You have my sympathies. Last September we had a visit from two guys wearing balaclavas. Opened all the vehicles and tried to get in the back door. This was at 10.30 pm. Dog went ballistic though and they ran for it. I went out with a cricket bat just in case.

No interest at all from Police, even though it was all on CCTV. My fault apparently for not locking the vans. As there is nothing of any interest in them, I do not lock the rear doors, because the damage they would do in opening them would cost far more to fix than replacing anything inside.

To date they have not been back

It's the damage normally that's more expensive to fix than what they take.

We repair plenty of scooters / motorcycles that get stolen and they would have been better using a big chain through the wheel than the steering lock.

Theives seem to think they are immune from prosecution (if they even get caught)..

That's because they pretty much are.

It seems even if plod has caught them bang to rights, on camera and holding the evidence, CPS still has very little interest.

Been done three times to date. Last one, police knew exactly who it is and where they are but can't do anything about it, due to their "protected nature".

Some friends of hours actually caught a pair robbing their locked up building right next to their house. He heard some thing went to look, with the big torch, one legged it, he caught the other inside. Hes an oddly calm guy, ex squaddie. About 18 stone 6 foot pure muscle. Little ned threatened to do him with a screw driver. His response according to his Mrs was try it, I dare you! Anyway she phone plod….intruder in the house hes still here. 11 minutes later they arrived, pretty good really, probably pure luck they were close by.

Took him away, charged and bailed, pleaded guilty to some minor charge even though cctv showed him brandishing a screwdriver…..250 hours community service. Probably same lot who later pinched his quad, which police recovered from the tracker at a known to them address, but no one got done, not enough evidence!

And thats the issue no deterrent, far far too namby pamby. Id have voted for public flogging personally, but the doogooders don't allow it

Paintsprayer in next small town to me got done.

They subdued his dog with a fire extinguisher - then kicked it to death. Got into his workshop - started a car up - and rammed it into a few other cars and the building structure - building was a near write off. They even broke a safe open to the car keys.

Police told him the same crew did it to a big undertakers firm in the nearest city - got in and started a high value herse up and rammed some other funeral cars and the building.

They never nicked anything - just smashed stuff up - why I don't know...?

We caught someone breaking into a car outside the shooting club, locals starting gathering and threatening us so I phoned the police, the answer was "we'll send someone when available", I said "did I mention this is a shooting club and we have firearms on the premises", they had a couple of cars and a van there in less than 5 minutes

the thing is, they did get in! Nothing missing though. I think they were after my bike which is locked up in a different part . Just picked up steel to make a new door

Early warning is the only real defence, if they get to the doors/windows its too late. We installed a duct system for a guy that set up a infra red beam system as an intruder warning that covered the boundary of his property, beams were set high enough not to be set off by scurrying animals. That worked well, all hell broke loose if the beams were crossed.

Going to get a security bod in to look at a professional install. Cables currently run above ground, will put a trench in down to the outbuildings and put cables in that

id change the workshop door to a steel door as goes for the stable door wood is the prefered route but could be worth changing to a steel door as ive seen more and more stable doors being made out of steel than wood

as goes for cable being cut swap to a metal half cone to protect the wires

i have them round my drive with a screamer in the bedroom if it goes off .ive caught a few would be prowlers thats all im saying they were 150 quid each and used on airport security
