If they're running at 'full capacity' as you claim, then someone sized them wrong. Fact.
Good luck with your Quincy, Junair and IR recips running flat out 24/7/365. The world has moved on for these sort of applications and now use rotary screws.
As stated above in normal operation, a compressor setup rotary or reciprocal usually has a tank, and offloads or shuts down during periods of low demand, however obviously a 100% duty set is capable of running full chat when required.
The rated capacity of a piece of process machinery is the full load sustained output. Fact!










My old lineshaft drill uses that lubrication method for the driveshaft. Recently saw a photo of the setup you describe on an American compressor unit too.
