Hello everyone, hope each and all of you had a great Christmas and a New Year, even if it feels like distant event now. Over Christmas, I was stressing about finding work with my qualifications, joining many jobsearch websites and agencies that all didn't bother to reply or help.
An RPL (recognized prior learning) would cost an astonishing $2800 = 10% tax for a certificate of Australian equivalent quals. Anyway this company gave me an assessment and emailed me my equivalent quals. So I googled the results found and came across the codes of units completed, I just picked out what I did and threw them onto my C.V. (That got me out of having to shell out $3080 on a certificate!)
Anyways, for the past 4 weeks, no work despite phoning round many places. I rather phone or email than throw around paper resumes and the cost of time + fuel in driving great distances and not achieving anything.
One morning I applied for a job wanting a fitter + MIG welder for a company making service bodies. I applied, and 40 minutes later I recieved a phone call explaining how I've been shortlisted and how my details will be passed to the company who need the new staff. Not 2 hours later and the phone rings again, and an interview was setup....
I now have a job paying me $26 (£13.50) per hour, 38 hours = $988 (£490) per week before tax (tax 15-20%) at a body builders for trucks and Ute's . Roles include MIG welding, soldering, bolting bodies to vehicles, light fabrication etc. Here's the company ; http://www.gibsontrubody.com.au/
At last a decent job that will make use of my skills!
