Argon mix in Essex

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a hobby-friendly supplier for Argon/Co2 mix in/around West Essex? There seem to be few BOC agents dotted about, and not much else from my Google efforts. Just want a choice really, rather than just been forced to use BOC.

I take it you saw the BOC /Volkszone offer?

for £60 for the year i think is best offer around, i dont think anything else comes close for the hobby user.

Hi Guys New to the forum (today). If it is any use we (IBWELD) sell gas in 10 litre bottles with NO rental. You buy the right to use (£60) then pay for the contents (£17.25 80%arg20%CO2 mix) + VAT (£88.84) then when you have used it you just pay for the contents..... simples!!! only one problem, I'm in Norfolk but if you wish i can look into a carrier, let me know if you need more details or bell me 07595354520. hope this helps if not sorry for wasting your time.....

Always useful to know of more independent suppliers. (Also Mark - that's the best list we have of all the alternatives to BOC - at some point we might stick it on a map).

thanks for the reply, yep I did see it . I think it's a great offer, but just thinking that when the offer is gone, what else is around this area that is geared towards a hobby/diy welder? Don't get me wrong, I don't expect something for nothing, just hoping that there might be a reasonable and fairly local deal out there for the long term.

@malcolm, thanks for the reply, the list was the first place I looked, and it's a very useful resource. Most of the suppliers around here seemed to be for co2, which is what sent me trawling Google for local suppliers of Ar/co2 mix.

What's the fill pressure alfie?...... stating that the bottle volume is 10L gives no indication of the actual volume of gas inside, unless the fill pressure is also known.

I considered it but decided against because the cylinder rental cost would start to mount up if you take several years to use the gas, as I'm sure I would. If you are working on a large project it might be different. I'm sure that's where BOC expect to make most money, as usual. For MIG, I'll have to make do with gasless or pub CO2.

Mark, I had the same problem as you when I was looking for a gas supplier. I'm in South Essex and didn't fancy going to BOC etc as my gas usage wouldn't justify the cost. I assume your a hobby user too. Adams Gas was a consideration but I don't think they go North of The River with their delivery service so its collection only.

I ended up using Weld-Air Supplies (01582 666123) in Dunstable after Gasman suggested them to me in a thread on here. Depending on where abouts in Essex you are its about the same distance as a trip to Adams Gas. Prices are good and he offers a good service.

Sorry bout the delay in reply Busa, Gas bottle pressure is 200 bar on the bottle. Also prices have gone up from 1st jan (only the vat now17.5%) for more info visit my post on the gas suppliers list or go to our website www.ibweld.com and click on the green gas bottles on the right hand side.
