Argon, how much psi.

I got a little problem (as per normal )

I left my bottle of Argon on and there was a slight leak. Not sure what there filled to but its reading a little over 500 psi.

How much do you think I have left?

What are they empty?

What are they full?

Ops, forgot to say I have the 5ft large bottle.

They can be filled to as much as 230 bar which is about 3380 psi, you have 500 psi which is about 34 bar..............as Mike says, oops!

So I should have enough for a few weeks, got a few little jobs to get done then ill fill it.

Right been welding for a couple of days, gauge has droped to zero, Undone the regulator and thought ill open the tap, it still was gushing out,,,,,,

How can I tell how much I got in there???? Its just I only got tomorow I can get some till a weeks time and where I get it from will take me a whole morning, thats half a day of fabrication and latley I havent been getting any time to play.....

Even when gauges are at 0, theres often a little bit left, but pressure not sufficient to cope with the flow.

It's probably got enough in it so it will just run out in the middle of something important
Change it tomorrow and you know it will be right for a good while.

Im thinking of that, also thinking that maybe ill do all the fabrication and tack it all together for now and hopfully check my hours to see if I can fit a morning in to go get a bottle.

Problem is the place I use is in Hereford, im in Risca. A morning gone just to get it.

Just got my new bottle today, screwed on the regulator, 3200'ish psi.

Well I decided to put a jubilie clip on the hose attachment this time just incase I forget to turn the bottle off.

It usually runs out on a Friday afternoon in the middle of an interesting job.

Test all the joins with washing up liquid and water, leave it for a while and see where it leaks, then tighten up the joints. Turn the tap on the bottle off as you leave the workshop.

If you are stupid put a sign on the door saying GAS OFF?, if you are only half stupid you will see this as you leave.

Dont overtighten the jubilee clip, this can lead to the hose getting fecked and leaking(there is a word for this) .

Dont use PTFE tape on the regulator joint, they are meant to be airtight by metal to metal contact. if it leaks at this join it is possible using really fine wet and dry paper to clean up the Knob end* of the join and get it airtight.

I have salvaged two reg's from mates by doing this.

Ive got a little PTFE tape on the flow-reg as a few years ago it was a little leak there but never had a problem since I did the PTFE.

My problem was I was ( two "was" in one sentence, lol) to dame lazy to put a jubilie clip on the output of the flow and somtimes it would wisper leak if I left it on, also because I did leave it on the wife thought she would turn it off for me (the wrong way on all 3 taps)
