Argomix gas in B'ham?

New to the forum and welding. Just inquiring about local gas suppliers and if anyone has had any good experience with any gas suppliers around Birmingham/Smethwick area?

I'm after a small bottle of Argon/CO2 5% mix for minor repairs on a mini. Preferably a rent free bottle as I wont be doing much welding!

I found a place in Leicester that does 20L 5%. I think it was £64 one off deposit, and £44 for a refill. Not sure if that was plus VAT. If it's any use I will get the details for you.

The only rent free gas I know of in Birmingham is Air Liquide AlBee cylinders. I just picked one up from Midland Welding near the Airport but there may be an Air Liquide distributor nearer to you, check their website.

These are small, low pressure cylinders and will probably work out more expensive.

The AlBee cylinders are filled at 200bar and the 11ltr size argon will give you over 6hrs tig welding. Refills are about £45 plus VAT. Argon mix is a bit cheaper.

Just had a look at the paperwork I got with this cylinder. If you return the cylinder within 6 months of purchase you will be refunded 70% of the cylinder cost. Within 12 months, 50%. 24 months 30% and any time after that 10%. So if you need a cylinder for a short while you can get most of the initial outlay back.
