Are these welds O.K. ?

Hi all,
I am still on the frirst slippery slopes of a steep learning curve but have started to now join metal to metal rather than just run beads. I have started to make some of the components ready for when I make my Gates joining baskets to 12mm bar do these look ok. It seems to have penetrated really well and on the test one the basket deformed rather than the weld move when I applied bending force. Am I on the right tracks, Any helpful advice gratefully received.

I'm a beginner myself, so can't comment on the weld quality, but what I do see is some rust on there I think! I know you want to avoid rust / paint/ containments as much as possible. Bare metal all the way :-)

It looks like a fairly well set weld to me..

Those welds look fine. There is normally a blob of weld on the end of the baskets from when they are manufactured which sets a small gap between the end of the basket and the bar which helps with penetration. We would flush the weld off with a flap disc to give a better appearance, but its personal choice.

Thanks for the quick replies, the ends of both components were cleaned to bright metal before I welded, damp garage didn't help when I left them in overnight after welding. Paul what grade flap disc should I use please

LOOKS good to me, as said above could just do with a clean up, wire brush or soft pad on grinder.

60 grit flap disc will be fine.
