are these welds alright?

they seemed to penetrate the other side, they ahve been cleaned with a wire brush, thats all.

what do you guys think?

They don't look too bad Will but it's difficult to see when they're taken from that far away. Saving the pic and zooming in shows that you're a bit hit and miss on the edges of a couple of them. They're also a bit inconsistent in height and width so maybe you were not quite as steady as you could have been. Is it gasless wire?
Overall, not a bad effort though, you're on the right track.

i had it on setting 2 (2,low on the switches)

i definatly need a flip down helmet, my hand arnt steady enough on its own which i assume is leading to the unevenness

the metal was 1mm but jointed to 1mm

Hehe yeah!! you really need both of your hands when your welding... so that you can steady your torch with your left? hand instead of holding your mask!
Don't worry! if you keep practiscing that steady hand will come....

You will find a massive difference with bothhands! There are some masks on flee bay that arer quite cheep and some on here have tried them. Apparently theyre quite good. A really good investment (along with some decient welding gloves!)

They seem to be ok for a beginer. what you need is hour after hour of monotonous practice, and eventually it will just "click".

PS: I think arkangel meant that he couldnt see the welds "i cant see sh*t" means to my interpretation that he just cant see it proprerly.

I know what "i can't see sh*t" means Zardoz! no offense but there are other ways to say you can't see the welds clearly!
