As one aluminium TIG LEARNER to another the only thing I can say is DON'T.
It is far too easy to screw panels like these up. Certainly do not be afraid to learn but do not learn on something critical like the Healey. I also have a set of expensive aluminium car panels which need pressing splits welding up. I certainly shall not be attacking them with the TIG until I am competent to do so. As you have already been told it is not easy but can be learnt. As for cheap machines I own a Stahlwerk so I am certainly not going to tell you to go out and do it with a £2000 £3000 TIG ONLY ! It can be done.
