Are Plasma Torches Interchangeable?

I don't necessarily mean physically, but electrically by making the correct wiring connections. I've wanted a 'machine torch' for my Hypertherm 900 for ages, but they cost a load of folding money Whereas there are a few Chinese generic imports that are more reasonably priced.

Working on the assumption that plasma cutters all work on the same principals, could the torch from one machine be adapted to another?

I think as long as the torch is rated at the correct amperage and its the same starting principle, eg. hf/pilot start, yes they are interchangeable .

Hypertherm torches are far superior, and a major part of what makes the machine perform so well. They have invested heavily in their consumables to achieve the performance. I think you will be very disappointed with how the machine works if you manage to get it working with a different torch. Personally, i would save up the foldies to get the correct machine torch. If that really isn't an option, i would adapt the torch mount to take the hand torch
