Are cheap digital level boxes any good?

Are cheap digital level boxes like this one any good. In theory it should be good for making a very accurate square.

It has mostly high ratings and a few says its no good.

I see the digital angle finder is cheaper, maybe it would be of more use.

I have something similar, different name. Use it on the mill for the vice or angle plate andles etc, seems ok

I have one - cheap thing - works well except you have to remove the battery or it goes flat. Wouldn't be without it - gets you close enough to start on the miller, and making trike bits invaluable -.1 degree resolution.

get one with a vial on top then you know they are roughly level to begin with, and as minimutley says, the batteries go flat if left in them.

I use there angle finder a lot. Very useful as a chippie.

Bought this one a while back. Extremely accurate... moved my m300 a few weeks ago, used it to get it level. Using a 0.02mm/m engineers level to finish off. I needn't of bothered it was so close.

I have the same as post 1 but re-branded and i love it...mine turns off on its own if left idle so don't have to keep taking battery's out as been stated as never had a problem with them going flat even if left for a month or two.

Same one (Wixey) here.
Works well & the batteries don't go flat - I think it automatically turns itself off.

Yes got two and there excellent for quick setups of anything so long as it doesnt need to be absolute bump on, just very very close . That DLX 360 is availble in a couple of different flavours .1 and +_ .02 degrees resolution and also dual axis and rechargable, I think thats the one to have. 45ish quid last time I looked.

I've an early box one and it eats batteries also bought a SPI one from MSC and much prefer it.
They are £41+ at the moment.

Good enough for camber angle, as long as your car is on a flat and level surface. I used to use something like a wixey, can't remember exactly what though.

Yes they are very handy and so long as they give you repeatable results, you can "recalibrate" them to pick and choose a reference level, even if that reference isn't itself level.

I have the Trend one from the OP and to be honest it is quite good. I haven't removed the batteries since purchase around February and it worked fine yesterday
I use it to set up things on the mill and any shelving too. As above, you zero out a reference surface and then the degrees are relative to that.
Very handy!

I have a Duratool model and it has been excellent for lining up telescopes, and measuring off the angles of roof trusses, but it does take three CR2032 coin cells, and a bit on the greedy side, power wise.

You'd never believe that these things derive their measurements from hot air. The sensor is a thing of micromechanical wonder, with a heater and four thermocouple sensors, working out the angle of dangle from the relative heating effect on each of the thermocouples.

Depending on how the batteries are installed you can isolate them by inserting a thin but stiff enough piece of plastic.

same, never removed the batteries and never had a problem.

readings are repeatable so i believe it's accurate to what is says it is
