Are 0.5 shade steps ok?

Hi All,

Fluxcore welding as a hobby here....... looking for a new lid & I see so many only adjust in 0.5 shade steps & concerned that it won't be enough & I may need something in between.... What's your experience with 0.5 steps or should I stick with analogue on a know & tune it in manually?

PS I've gotten used to setting up using both hands - one to pull the torch trigger on some scrap at my chosen welder settings & the other to twiddle the knob for best visual on the puddle.

The ones I’ve seen & used, the control is infinitely variable, on a rheostat. Even if it was half a shade it would be fine, I think the glass ones only go up in whole shades.

You'll be just fine.

You don't need to fine tune the helmet shade.

Miles of welds were done to x-ray quality using fixed shade lenses...usually #10.
Nor do you need to fine tune the gas flow on the MIG regulator either.

Don't sweat these small details, get some more actual arc time under your
belt, you'll do just fine.
