I've been doing an 'Introduction to Welding Processes' course at the local
college of knowledge for the last 15 weeks.
As well as realising that the ancient mig machine I've got is a complete POS
I've also learned of the joys of stick welding. I've been really surprised how
easy it is to lay down a reasonable looking weld run compared to the gas
and mig welding I'd done before.
I think I'm going to buy a cheap arc set for any substantial construction
in the future.
It's also raised the question why low end migs try to push the upper range of
their power. Would Clarke and all not be better giving their low end migs
have a better low current control and leave the 130A settings to more
expensive machines/arc welding.
BTW, I realise the arc welding I've been doing is downhand in good conditions,
I don't want to take anything away from the neat accurate/long runs
professional welders lay down, especially long runs where you can't see
where they've stopped and started again.
