just wondered if its poss to stitch weld using arc. had a go yesterday on some 2mm & it came out quite neat. will it contaminate the weld doing it this way.

Not as long as you stop, de slag, then wire brush, which makes it all too time consuming, have tried carrying on stitching before glow goes out of weld before now, but you still end up with slag inclusions, it may look ok on the surface but you cannot tell visually if you have any deep down.....only my opinion and experience mind, so am happy to be corrected.
You always get a wee bit of porosity when you first strike up and the way to get round this is to start about 5mm priior to the end of the previous run on top of the old weld, this only matteers if you are doing Lloyds class 1 multi-pass stuff, otherwise don,t worry about it.
