Sad to see them go, I used to buy tools from them when I ran a Myford, I did almost buy a milling vice in the closing down sale, though the £22 postage to me in Scotland put me off...

I think they're closing down due to retirement and no one else wanting to take the business on, as opposed to going bust?

Shame as they've always been great to deal with.

Most of the stuff from Arc is of Chinese origin though. The difference being it's worth spending a bit more to get it from Arc because you know it should be consistent. Quick change toolholders, for example. You're not ordering some random holder & hoping it fits. Order a holder from Arc & it should/will fit their toolpost.

Exactly, and you're supporting a UK based business with UK held stock and support.

The collet blocks were consistent quality.

Can't really blame him to be fair.

I believe he was looking to sell some parts of the business off.

You can get a lot of the same stuff from Ali, and I don't think anybody was under any illusions as to the origin of the stuff - but the benefit was the fact you knew you had some UK based backup if there were any issues with the product and some sort of guarantee of consistency..

I'm wondering who, if anybody, will take on the supply of the stevenson items, as I think they were rather unique to arc.

And you could get to speak to Arc on the phone

I've bought bits an pieces off them over the years

Few years ago I made an enquiry about some headstock bearings for my Mill which they couldn't help me with but were happy to have a chat about my issue. Must have spent a good 30mins on the phone with them even though they knew there wasn't a sale at the end of the conversation
