You can have our apprentice

Same here, machine shop apprentice, started in 1976, pretty much one of the last years of real apprenticeships. I had to do a year full time at college, then day release one day a week for five years.Apprenticeships are the way to go, was for me anyway. Just about scraped through college, wouldn't have been able to hack uni
I was a machinist apprentice so where does that put me in the above picture?![]()
Probably too much hassle for them, as someone will have to process paperwork (to make sure you are covered by insurance and HSE) and show you what to do, and where etc. Meaning someone won't be doing their own job. When I passed my welding certification, I got dressed up and took my cv round all the local welding businesses, for some work experience/ free labour.
I was shocked at the lack of interest.
So now I do the jobs that those businesses won’t touch or can’t be bothered with![]()
Similar to my apprenticeship I started in 2013, year in the training school, day release at college and then 2 years on siteSame here, machine shop apprentice, started in 1976, pretty much one of the last years of real apprenticeships. Exactly this.Probably too much hassle for them, as someone will have to process paperwork (to make sure you are covered by insurance and HSE) and show you what to do, and where etc. Meaning someone won't be doing their own job.
The moped lads are always the keen onesYou can just tell if a 16 year old kid is gonna be any good workwise.
I have had them turn up in tracksuits and trainers. Phone glued to thier hands.
Then every now and then - one rocks up on moped - rucksack on his back with his lunch in it - new pair of workboots/work trousers his Mother has provided.
He removes his crash helmet - puts on a wooley hat because it is winter and cold. Politely nervously introduces himself.
My mates lad said the same recentlyWhen I passed my welding certification, I got dressed up and took my cv round all the local welding businesses, for some work experience/ free labour.
I was shocked at the lack of interest.
