Apple IOS 18 - LEAVE IT ALONE

Anyone with Apple iPhones or iPads I’d advise you not to upgrade to IOS 18 yet. I updated yesterday to 18.1 and now have no emails through imap. Mother had done her iPad earlier in the week before I got to warn her and no email either with a different provider. Warned a mate and he’s having the same problem too and thought it was his email provider.
Quick search on Apple groups and the problem has been ongoing since September and still not resolved with latest release.

Are you sure it's not just the new mail selector button at the top of the mail page? When they introduced the "feature" at iOS 18 I thought I wasn't getting new messages until I switched it to "All Email".
Try that - it may be that you're getting the emails but the mail client isn't displaying them.

@skotl It's a problem where it is not downloading emails and syncing between devices. The Apple email and my business email (through Outlook servers) work but my private email address through VirginMedia doesn't. My mother uses TalkTalk and my mate is on hosted email address.
To start with it wasn't syncing with deleted emails still showing in the inbox as unread, then it wasn't connecting and saying to check settings and lastly was Network Error (Posix 96) and the email account stopped working altogether.

Tangent -

I have an adsl router, supplied by my ISP.

Their auto update (firmware) caused the router to stop connecting to their servers.

They are unable to roll back, so sent me out a new bit of hardware.


Some people say humanity is stuffed. I would cite this as supporting evidence.

I'm the same with mobile phones, they're usually 2 or 3 generations old so cost nothing like the price of the latest all singing and dancing model, but it does what I want.

I do receive emails, BUT there is no alert sound when a mail arrives, It seems to be a fault, And my be corrected in early December, I contacted apple and o2, they tried every thing but still no alert sound yet,

Same here, I don’t update unless I feel something is not functioning as well as it used to.

And I never, ever, update anything as soon as an update comes out, for anything.
The people who create the updates use the general public for road testing the update, rather than spent countless hours in the lab testing it themselves. And invariably a second brief update comes out not long after….

Latest is 18.1.1 and it works fine. I think some of the issues might have been addressed in the .1.1 update. Either way, it did address some vulnerabilities so if you have anything on it which could be considered as sensitive you are advised to do the update. iPhone 15 pro max and iPad Pro, both fine.
