I wear gloves for pretty much everything...still happens. They are not as bad as they would be without but it's inevitable when we spend all day handing sharp and dirty objects.

I am right there with you, it is hard.
But if we are a bit more conscious of what we are doing to ourselves, that is a result in my book.

Right guys, you have had your fun now pay attention.

You MUST take care of your hands, start now or pay the price later. Every time I go into hospital and have to have a Cannula into the back of my hand they struggle, like leather so my hands have seen years of hard graft, much as many on here, I too can easily turn my hands into sandpaper.
It is not good, trust me on this, you need to, you MUST use a hand cream. I am starting to suffer now with cuts that will not heal and split open again, especially on my thumbs that see all the abuse.
I am very forgetful of my own advice, hopeless sometimes, but I do try nowadays. I use barrier cream, THIS is supposedly the beast and is not sticky and fast drying, expensive but it works, when I remember. O'keeffes hand cream HERE is supposedly one of the best and probably suits our style of work the best though I use others too. Women probably have the best brand hand cream but don't get caught using it, you would be surprised how much some brands cost, makes Tig Brazing wire look cheap (?).
Anyhow, the bottom line here, take care of your hands, all of this washing of hands is also not good, it too washes out the natural oils.

after years of working bare handed...
I buy 24 pairs of thicker latex gloves at a time on ebag,
alway put them on, as soon as Im outside,
can still pick up screws and washers etc..

hands have greatly improved, no cracks or dirt encrusted cracks...
well worth it at 50p a pair

That's what I use for general use.

I buy 100 pairs at a time...cheaper than most nitrile gloves.
