Anyone want a large small scale (3mm) model train layout in the future ?

3mm scale, is that just a bit smaller than the ubiquitous OO scale?

That is a wonderful thing. I REALLY hope this finds its way to a good home. I think it should be displayed with a plaque (or similar) celebrating the original builder.

Remember when I was a kid, a neighbours dad had a spare bedroom set up like this. A lot smaller though. I couldn't wait to get up there and play with it.
Always wanted to do something like this, but like a lot of things, it didn't happen. Spent too much time and money on cars, Land Rovers, and other things.

Would love to have it, but sadly no space, and I guess a lot of the pleasure is in building it.

Does it have illumination too ? Its absolutely fantastic.

Rod Stewart is also into his model railways too. He would be working on things backstage at gigs apparently. Not very rock and roll ?

What is it with model railways ? I bet most guys have a secret hankering for one, even if it is considered uncool by some.

Ooooh, my son (13) would probably jump up and down wanting this, plus (for me to purchase) any rolling stock - he loves diesel and steam (we're off to the Severn Valley diesel gala this w'end !), he even has his own youtube channel - chilterntrainspotter. It'll probably fit in the loft.

Logistics and all that would be fun if requires collecting from Brittany - though I have been a frequent visitor there to see old friend in Crehen (but via plane to Rennes) - but he has hundreds of my books that need collecting, so could feed two birds with one fat ball as it were here with a van trip..

Would it fit, carefully loaded / stacked into a transit van, or would something bigger be needed?
What sort of timescale is there (am thinking school holidays) - are you under pressure to make a decision / have it shifted soon?

I'll need to look into stuff here (costs of van, ferry etc) / ask son - so at this stage all quite speculative yet.

00 gauge is 4mm = foot scale with a track gauge of 16.5mm although purists use 18.83mm (P4) gauge.
3mm = foot is usually known as TT (table top) scale with a track gauge of 12mm with very limited locos/stock available so mostly had to be hand built from scratch or kits until Hornby launched their TT range a couple of years ago.

Regarding moving it, I think you'll need something bigger than a van.

More like a 7.5 ton, or two vans, my father points outs it's bolted to the walls, but I'm sure it could be dismantled.
