I get my gas from energas as the agent is 5min walk from my workshop but the chap there mentioned I could get a multi pack of say 6 cylinders on a manifold. Does anyone else use these? I've never seen this before.
I have seen it once, a 12 pack of argon used for purging. It was a massive factory fit out in a car plant putting the cooling pipe work in for the robot welders. I didn’t have anything to do with the the welding, I was installing the control panel for the cooling system but to put the size of the system into perspective the control panel just for cooling water was rated at 800A.
Had it in a place I worked at sometime ago, handy if you do production stuff in bays.
2 proper cylinder pallets with a heap of cylinders on, stores looked after it.
Forklift straight on and off the gas truck.
Regs and changeover valves mounted on the wall. just connect up hose
Workshops piped up with various drops in the bays an convenient placesss around the workshop. Flow meters mounted on them, then just hose to the welder.
As Hugh says. we use vast quantities of argon on our plasma sets, so we have a cryo vessel which they fill with liquid argon every other week. It has all the clever stuff, vapouriser etc, built in, so you just connect up a normal reg, and away you go.... not cheap, but a godsend when you consider we can kill an full size w bottle in about 40mins or so at full tilt......
We use mcp's of oxy (think theres 15 size w in a pack with boc, 12 with air liquide), although we do have a vessel for that on site as well. I have seen mcp's of shielding gasses on the back of the wagons when swapping ours out, but dont recall ever seeing an argon one... doesnt mean they dont exist though..... mcp would be the next stage from single bottles, then the cryo tank from there
It all depends upon your usage, you can get O2, Ar, N2, O2, He as cryogenic liquids, you can mix them with each other or with compressed cylinder gases via a mixing panel to give you whatever shielding gas mix you want. Virtually any gas or gas mix you can buy in individual cylinders is also available in cylinder packs (MCPs) as well
walking to my office on site this morning i counted 45 MCPs (mostly containing N2) along with a 20ft ISO cryogenic tank and there are other MCPs throughout the site containing shielding gas ( i guess we must be on special rates for being a high volume user) (unless we are a satellite storage depot for BOC )
