I have a few directed pir, some American brand, I’d have to check the name but it’s focused, not like a laser but enough to stop most false triggers.
They work well, each sensor triggers a different tone and my dogs can hear the buzzer from almost any location on the property, they are even clever enough to have worked out by the tone what zone to run to. Being Doberman’s most people don’t hang around

edit to add pic, pir detector on that tree. Also in pic two ultra low light CCTV cams without IR on so undetectable with phone camera trick and of course some friendly land sharks...

Yes i dont doubt they could be seen if they were looking

But set back in a hedge either side of the road 200 metres from the yard i dont think theyll be looking very hard for them

Once they get on the yard the floodlights and cameras will come on but hopefully ill be mobile by then to see whats happening

Anyone in doubt about a dogs guarding ability should read ‘man stopper’ by Joel McMains, the title does a injustice, it’s a balanced and very informative book without any glorifying.
Whilst they may have weaknesses be in no doubt that they are effective, I’ve seen armed 18stone guys taken out by a 30kg trained dog in seconds. Take a tough guy who can easily ‘deal’ with any dog to a Schutzhund event and watch them melt or change tune and suggest they would put poison steaks over the gates

Of course a home protection dog would work in conjunction with the homeowner who may or may not be even more dangerous.
