Anyone use laser beam alarms?

Getting a bit ridiculous around this part lately with quad bike thefts and chainsaws etc i could name probably 10 in the last 2 months locally!

Got me thinking....

Fairly long drive up to us around 200 yards

Id like something mounted towards the far end with a buzzer in the house

So many places got cameras but unless your alerted to them being there all you can see the next morning is a load of hoods pulled up

Was thinking to get it mounted say 4ft in the air to avoid foxes etc setting it off but low enough for vehicles or people to pass through it

In a ideal world wireless but i dont think theres anything with a long enough range?

Running a small cable to it is not the end of the world

Idea is as soon as the buzzer goes you can just glance at the camera to see if it was a bird or a baddy!!

Budget umm not looking to waste money but dont mind spending a few hundred if its a super dooper bit of kit

Will possibly be after a few more to put across the inside of the bike shed door etc

Typically you would just install a break beam sensor either side of the access road at a height to avoid wildlife - they are usually IR and anything breaking the beam will issue a trigger to the alarm system.

I used to use Pulnix pir transmitters and pir sensors . wired between each other up to 60 mtrs and monitored via a bog standard alarm panel which used a gentle sounder in place of an ear splitting screeching sounder. . They ought to have heaters in them to keep them working when it's -5 oC or colder . Used to have the perimeters covered a few feet inside th efences so if some one climbs 7 jumps ove they have several feet before it is activated catches under wire crawlers . And frequently one diagonally across the protected area had them set to just above knee height
Another set up means sinking inductor wires just below the te ground when some one walks or drives between the cables the circuit capacitance changes and triggers the alarm

One place even has them around all the fields incase any of the horses escape.

No sure how much they improve security, some places have them set up to trigger the automatic gates so they start opening as you enter the drive to save you waiting for them!

I suspect a gate with a remote magnetic lock or something will be better for securing stuff.

Around this way the undesirable types are bold as brass and will just drive in and start looking around.
If you come out they will claim they have come to collect an old fridge or something and say they must be at the wrong house.
If you are not at home they will collect whatever they want.
Can't see how a beam break will help with that.

Back to basics for me. Dig a moat and add a couple of these No questions, and no evidence of the intruders

Gate not really practical due to the amount of traffic that comes here would be a nitemare having to buzz everyone in

Plus i think if they get to a gate say 200 yards away theyll just hop over it and walk up, grab a handfull of tools and away to go

Or indeed cut a fence to get the quad out something which has been done several times locally

What im after is a system that alerts that someone is coming without them realising theyre even triggering it

Its more of a night time thing really theres always someone on the yard during the day but then again people have had stuff go when theyve nipped in the house for a coffee!

One reason i dont like drones but thats another story!

Mate showed me a farm where he's installed laser / infrared sensors. They formed a circle around the property so that anyone approaching would trigger an alert.

Our CCTV system has PIR activation and this gives an audible alarm, puts the inbuilt LED security lights on and has speakers so you can tell them to go away, if you are out and connected to the internet you can also get text alerts and see them on your mobile and speak to them.

I have a couple of vicious dogs and if anyone gets onto the property they bite first and don't ask questions after.

Id like something like this in a ideal world but i think to many animals wandering about would be going off all the time

If it covered the yard we'd turn it off during the day and on at night but then it would always be that one time you popped up the field for 10 minutes that something goes

Security lights already here but again if theyre brazen enough theyll just carry on and ill still be snoring

I have a pair of active beams across my drive set 3 foot up . are not affected by wind rain or sunshine and have heaters in them so snow doesnt settle on them there wired to a sound bomb in bedroom they are made by radiovisor and cost 120 quid the pair

We had one about twenty-five years ago.

good things but easily overcome if they can be seen by intruders.

Next door had multiple beams installed after they were burgled that make a loud chime as they’re broken.

I have a few directed pir, some American brand, I’d have to check the name but it’s focused, not like a laser but enough to stop most false triggers.
They work well, each sensor triggers a different tone and my dogs can hear the buzzer from almost any location on the property, they are even clever enough to have worked out by the tone what zone to run to. Being Doberman’s most people don’t hang around

edit to add pic, pir detector on that tree. Also in pic two ultra low light CCTV cams without IR on so undetectable with phone camera trick and of course some friendly land sharks...

Yes the idea is to get them discreetly installed so they dont try to get around them as they wont know theyre there

Know of one farm where they cut fences to take a quad out the back way rather than across the main yard so if theyre successful ill probably get several more to crisscross the workshop etc
