Came across this and wondered if any of you guys has tried it:-

I thought wax was used for removing unwanted hair, not unwanted bolts

I was waiting for the manifold to break off the way he was pulling on that without supporting it. No I've never heard of it before.

Never tried it myself as yet, but apparently it works well. It's a yonks old method, so likely still wouldn't be recommended if it was naff.

anybody that calls nuts--------- bolts is a bit of a richard head but there you go !!

one thing it might do more than seep in, is to thermally shock the stud, coz of the coldness of the wax transmitting into the stud and reducing the dia slightly of the stud.

If the wax is touched against the stud the fact that it melts means the latent heat of fusion is taken out of the wax, which will cool the stud more than just contact.

Surely the wax will be burnt off before it gets a chance to seep down into the threads?

I think if you try to burn just wax it doesn't work only melts. It needs a wick of some kind in order to burn.

Heard it quite a few times on USA forums but never tried it, Another tip mentioned is to use milk of magnesia as an anti sieze when fitting manifold studs.

had a stuck stud in a caliper today, allen key had rounded, locked stud in the vice tried to turn caliper even with pipe leverage it was a no go, tried some candle wax, nada, zip, so welded big nut, as ever that did the trick.
