The scale of the project is amazing. Not just the size, but all the sailing gear, electronics, hull cooling and creature comforts. Building something to sail around local lakes and coast is one thing. Building a ship to sail around the world is in a class by itself.

I wish them luck. Hope to see updates. Man, must be 2000 photos on that site.

Anyone know what tool is being used to cut the steel, eg on day 6?

Yes, plasma cutter. Don't know what make.

The MIG is a Miller, looks like a 210 amp. I did read they were hitting the duty cycle on it.

I picked up a small plasma cutter. Amazing, now that I have one I don't know how I lived without it.

Brilliant. Being both a sailor and an occasional metal basher I found that quite "rivetting". Do I need to get out more?

It had me confused for a second. Though I believe if you look closely you will see that its a plasma cutter torch, mounted on a radial arm to get the correct size curve every time. I think the arm which she is leaning over is probably bolted or magged to the other piece of straight edge steel she is kneeling on.

I liked the little 'trolley' that the plasma cutting torch was attached to.

How about a slight mod...

instead of having wheels that run pretty much straight, how about having four metal balls, say, 3/4" diamenter, one in each corner?

That way it could be used 'freehand'.
