The way I see it is that the dangers of inhaling atomised iso's is well publicised and there is plenty of affordable equipment available to minimise it so if you choose not to, then that's your choice to live with the consequences.

didn't see any but to be fair i very rarely wear a mask when priming with filler primer as it is pretty heavy and doesn't produce over spray the way top coat does.

spraying mate, and im still here.. although my sanity may be in question due to the recent landy purchase... lechler ti (green) goes on nice and heavy, virtualy no overspray at all..

yea im still here 2 after 62 years and sprayed 5 cars with 2k and cheapo face masks but wear them for any spraying or dusty places

Looks like top coats were done in a downdraft booth and doesn't show his head so no idea what mask is used.

Are you guys saying that the HSE recommendations on 2k clear are wrong or that you have just been lucky?

not saying they are wrong, just that some folk seem more sensitive than others when it comes to isos, ive been around it for a long time as has my brother in law who is a painter / panel beater to trade and is exposed to it most days, i also know a lot of folk in the trade, and none use air fed masks, a good quality face mask 3m or similar will do the job when fitted properly.

its most likely a case of horses for courses, anyone using any chemicals should always read the data sheet and to a certain extent risk assess themselves, if you know the risks and protect yourself as you deem necessary then all good, if you dont read the data sheet and plough in head long then more fool you,

i know of one guy who worked in a unit down from us who decided to paint his van and did so with a 2k high solid, (jensen blue) unfortunatley he didnt bother to wear a mask and didnt realise the dangers, he was found the next evening by a family member who had come looking for him. so yes there are dangers but with a common sense approach you wont shuffle off your mortal coil after getting one sniff of the stuff....

HSE will always default to the belt and braces Gold standard, that's why they will not recommend filter masks, even though they are available and effective, albeit for a limited time

Everybody here knows it is damaging to health, there's no disagreement about that, some people are more sensitive to it than others and like all safety legislation it's based on the worse case scenario, it's when I hear it peddled that it's gonna try and kill you if you give it a dirty look or that when the lid comes off it's Pandoras box. Give us the facts, make the equipment available and affordable then let us make our own decisions is the way I see it.

As you say its a personal choice, I use air fed when spraying but don't use anything when mixing or cleaning.

I can see why guys who have a booth with a good down draft don't seem too worried, but for me in my garage, even with the doors fully open the 2k clear mist really hangs in the air and the air fed gives me a peace of mind.
