What tyres are on it? It should be pretty quiet.

I’ll have a look. That reminds me, it came with no spare wheel or jack/brace, just an optimistic little compressor and tyre slime.

On the shopping list are: small breaker bar, socket, screwy jack, spare wheel, jump leads.

Haynes Manuel's, a thing of the past for when owners expected to roll up their sleeves and replace a gearbox on a Saturday afternoon! Why there's no need for such things now we have these lovely reliable efficient electric cars.

What model of Discovery did you have?

I would swap a gearbox if needed. At least it’ll be lighter than a Td5 one…

I did briefly consider electric, but those are specialised commuting machines, to me. Current state of technology:
Electric motors are brilliant.
Batteries are crap.

I've just bought a Haynes manual for my sons Fiat 500, it's been well used already!

The way I see it, if I get a couple of jobs done from it, it’s more than paid for itself.

Sadly my Discovery ownership ended with a Td5 Discovery 2 Landmark. I so love the Discovery 4's though, especially the late model XV and Landmarks from 2015/16. Sadly their reputation for causing financial ruin made my head rule heart and buy a sensible reliable Freelander 2 instead. My kids are grown up now and it's normally only me in the car 90% of the time so a 7 seater isn't really required too often. I miss the huge boot occasionally but the roof bars or a trailer cope with anything I can't get inside it. Diesel prices too make the Freely a slightly less painful experience at the pump.

I had real cheap nasty Barums fitted to an old work van. The road noise was horrendous.

A mix of Roadcruza, RXmotion and Pirelli.

I've never heard of Roadcruz or RXmotion, sound like cheap & nasties.

I bet most of your road noise is coming from them.

Nexen or Falken are pretty good (grippy & reasonably quiet) budget tyres according to our tame tyre monkey at work.
