Anyone know anything about freezers?

A little tip for next time you want to defrost your freezer. With the freezer empty, and the power OFF, light a load of tea tree lights, and place inside the freezer MAKING sure they are a safe distance from flammable surfaces. Leave door a jar. Heat from lights sppeds up, defrost, and no harm done. Simples

An Update...

Well it turns out that it's not knackered afterall! Not quite sure how I got away with it but it seems that I did!

After the little incident with the fireball, I just threw it back together and shut the door and started looking about for another freezer. A bit later on I noticed that the high temp light was off again, and things were getting colder again. It's been working all week, and the fan cuts in and out just like it should do, so I think all is well.

The auto defrost thing is still questionable though, so I'll need to keep an eye on it in the future, but next time I'll not try the blow lamp.

Thanks for all the advice Guys, and I'll remember the bit about being patient next time!

What model have you got WM, I have the mistral plus and I have to give it a defrost myself about twice a year depending on the abuse its had off the kids.
