@Jacktegla The only thing that would put me off buying the one in the OP is the backdrop, keep away from anything Landrover that's lived by the sea

Why I bother: they are good offroad, can tow 3.5T, if you live in a remote rural area with potholed single track roads: they do not break springs and buckle alloy wheels, you are a good height to see over the bracken/hedges to make single track roads safer, if you have a winch you get to rescue people that have slid off single track roads, spares are cheap, they are relatively easy to work on, there are lots of good upgrades: limited slip diffs/diff locks, heavy duty props, steering rods, suspension, underbody armour....,lots of the parts/upgrades are made in England and almost anything is available from stock, people let you out junctions, kids and other Defender/Series owners wave and negligible deprecation. In two words, WHY BOTHER......
I have never understood the whole LR thing.
I drove 30 years ago a series 2 regularly at the time on a farm ... yes it did what it was tasked to do , but even then I hated driving it .
Fast forward 25 years... and I drove a Defender 110 Td5 for work , off road up severe gradients towing a gen set for powering up mobile masts .
Again it did what it was tasked to do .... but so did the ford ranger we also had at the time . Given the choice of the two hand me the ranger keys any day !
Every time I drive one I feel like an abused prostitute in the position im forced to drive in ... legs akinbo and my elbows anywhere they will go (right hand elbow usually out of the window ! )
IME , never has a piece of engineering been as over rated .
Have to admit my series 3 swb is still the most comfortable driving position of any car I have ever driven, and I'm 6'1 and have broad shoulders. But I could never afford a defender now with the silly prices people want for them, and the condition of most of them.
