Anyone know about electric motors?

Hi

I'm building a electric hacksaw as a project, it's going nicely but I've no idea when it comes to electric motors and electrics .. I don't know what to get really, just something reliable and man enough to power it in one direction but I think it would be best to have control over the speed.. I've normal 240 v supply in my workshop..
So any advice would be great.. I've an old angle grinder motor Assm which works fine which obv has a handy little 90 degree gearbox so was thinking of using that, but I feel it might be too aggressive obv I could drive a sprocket to change the exit speed but just not sure if it's a suitable motor to try to use..

Appreciate any help please..

you need something with power at low RPM, too high and it will just wear the blade out fast

My p h saw has a 1/2hp motor. Interesting, what are you using for slides/ways for the saw blade frame to slide on? Been thinking of making another one for myself

Ive a lot of 6x4 bandsaw spares which may or may not be of use. Not got a motor any more mind maker bought that but feel free to pop and have a look or let me know if you need out. As for the motor mine is a standard 1/2 hp 1400 rpm on my saw which is geared up/down with a simple pulley arrangement.

a 1/3d hp motor will run donkey saw no problems I virtualy sit on mine to make it cut faster

Been given a good deal on this set up ... With g box and 25mm output shaft just need a keyed flywheel now!

Should reduce the speed down to 50 rpm with good low down torque.. X

Hopefully yes, I may if need be though fit a capped bearing holder after the flywheel to offer more support to the shaft..

Not as such no, I'm trying to work out as best I can what I think I'm going to need based on many I've looked at on YouTube etc, I'm sure there's a formula for it somewhere.. But obv the size of flywheel and length of pin will make a huge difference, so trial and error will play its part.. I've made the sliding rail go carry the hacksaw along its path, along with the support to hold it up, I be fitted a catch on the support pillar to hold the hacksaw out of the way when not in use, got a metalwork bench vice to use to hold material, need to accurately work out a way of getting angles now, like on a mitre saw somehow, I've nearly completed the hacksaw with blade tightening built in, also want to have a drip drip coolant feed set up if req, so I can just leave it to get on with itself while I do something else.. Made a support arm to stop the hacksaw when it's finished from falling to low and cutting into the bench..

ive got a rapidor. I can measure the stroke and crank pin from center if its any help obviously if u want a 6 inch stroke the crank pin needs to be 3 inch out from center giving the 6 inch travel with one revolution
