Anyone know about diggers

Hi all

I have been using digger at farm and i need to tighten the track. I know you use grease.

I know there should be a grease nipper at the end of the shafts. Am I correct. ? How do u think it could have sheared off if so.

The track will be "stretched" between a driven sprocket at one end and an idler at the other . The idler may slide in and out on a bracket or "cannon" which is like hydraulic ram pressurised with grease . So look for something around the idler bracket with a grease nipple on it.

That is the grease nipple, google weather head grease nipples. You will need a weather head grease gun attachment.

I take it you have first lifted the machine so the track is in the air, then run the track back and forth before measuring the sag ? then consulted the manual so you know what the track sag should be for that type of track ?

Don't be so quick just to pump in more grease, I've seen enough damage done to tracks/sprockets etc because people just keep adding grease to try and stop the track coming off rather than fix the actual problem.

Thanks for the reply. I have the manual. I was talking to machine man and said u just grease it up. I thought it would be a normal nipper that's all.

He told me what to do though.

Buttonhead / Weatherhead , its the same thing.

I will give them a phone. I take it its just something that slips over the top of the button. Sorry for the questions.

This is all new to me and guy at farm has no idea. He doesn't seem bother. It a old machine. Everything in general is well worn/lack of maintainer . I have just started driving it.

Just put one of these on the end of your normal greasegun extension.
