Anyone here put a complaint through the Financial Ombudsman?

Has any one else every had recourse to go through the F.O. and if so did it reslove well?

I have just just lodged a formal complaint about Pheonix Life - years ago i took out an endowment life policy with another company that was bought up by Phoenix - anyway long story short, I have been battling with them since before Christmas to cancel the policy and cash in the endowment and they have been slow, obstructive, have told me different things at different times - and have now lost the cheque...

Sounds like the shower of sh1t I had a pension with... Equitable Life. Hasn't made a single penny in years; meanwhile their execs and "investment professionals" continue to rake in 6 & 7 figure salaries Transfered it for nothing through Hargreaves Lansdown - they do all the legwork, hassle free - and returned 20% in the first month of taking control meself! (SIPP)
Different with a life policy though I should think.
These regulatory bodies are toothless dogs in my opinion, but keep badgering em, all you can do.

Two years +, unfortunately, the F.O. can rule in your favour, but as far as I understand it's not legally binding, only a court can do that. It's the first step in the process. Get everything in writing, and I mean everything. Don't enter into telephone discussions etc., because it just doesn't work. Having said that, the F.O. endorsing your complaint makes it virtually impossible for their case to succeed by legal means, just tell the truth.

Hang in, if you have a genuine grievance, you will win in the end...just may take a little longer, a lot more writing and the odd feat of endurance Sorry for the essay, but the process is far longer.

Good luck, the little guy CAN win in the end.

you might also consider updating Tony Hetherington at the Mail On Sunday financial section. He can sometimes get companies to act by the bad publicity.

Have just been through a complaints procedure with the FO ( the abbreviation says it all !! ) . After initially being advised by them that it would take 2 months to process it actually took 6 months !! Even then the outcome was useless. Total waste of time.
