Anyone have experience with this - Miller MPI-220 Pulse

Hi everyone. Wondering if anyone has anything to say about the Miller MPI 220 pulse.
Are there any known problems with them, do Miller stand over genuine failures on these machines.
Is there a better option, wanting pulse for mig on aluminium, I see Helvi do a very similar spec
machine, with exact same feeder.

I looked at these once - with a view to buy one. They were in the sale and discounted (but they are not now - price seems to gone up allot)

I have used one - my mate got one - only threaded up with A18 wire on mild steel - pulse works OK in position. His still works - but to be honest he only gluing gates fences together and he uses this for a site welder and has bigger welding plant in his workshop.


Not sure I would - buy into such a small machine for Aluminium - I would want something with more amps and a water cooled torch to be honest.

What sort of ally welding are you thinking of doing...?

Thank you @premmington , regarding aluminium, 3 to 6mm, but it would only be repairs
and not a regular thing.

There does not seem to be many single phase migs that are capable of
welding alluminium using pulse or double pulse.

I see Jasic have a new one out, evolution 200 +, way over priced and the innards
are worse looking than on their regular models, seems they skimped on everything.
A youtuber took the cover off aside another china pulsed mig, the other one had a
lot more copper in it, heavier cables, and better put together, the jasic had a board
wedged into plastic slots, all the transformers looked lighter, choke too, and not a
sign of the usual battery of caps.

The Stell Iron 212 can do aluminium, but it has a plastic feeder, can't see that lasting.

This is a Helvi with the exact same feeder as the Miller.

Have a look at Ceboras Pocket Pulse, it'll do what you want although not cheap it is versatile enough for a small single phase machine, can use it for alloy, mig braze and we even found a gasless mode last week when gas ran out and we had to find a roll of gasless wire.

Thanks @willie.macleod , I would love to have the bigger 200 amp Cebora Pocket, but it is a lot more expensive, and the worst part, it has been in production now for a very long time, no sooner than I would have it they would bring out a newer version, leaving limited interest in it from Cebora even in regard to repair if it died within the warranty.
Do you like the Cebora range, I had three of them and regret selling every one of them as I was working in other peoples shops and hated to see them lay around unused.

Am in no panic, will keep an eye out for any sales that come along.

Check out the EWM Picomig 220 Pulse, its not cheap but it's arguably the best single phase pulse mig on the market.

Been around in the 180 amp format for ages but they released the updated 220 amp version a while ago now and gave it the extra amps needed to compete with some of the other units in it's class.

Thanks, I know a man and his second Miller 220P has now gone pop, both bought new, both used very lightly and very little as he welds all day in a factory, definitely giving them a miss now.
Yes, I knew Helvi make them, the Helvi competitor to this seems to have dissapeared,
they now front a 15kg roll sized offering, not what am after in that size of a machine.
