He'll be working through a hole about 40mm long.
Not personally but Vicki my better half has, her L4 5 disk ruptured causing excruciating pain as if her leg was on fire, she couldn’t walk and became bed ridden within a month.Anyone been there and has the tee-shirt, looking for advice/your results from surgery?
Not personally but Vicki my better half has, her L4 5 disk ruptured causing excruciating pain as if her leg was on fire, she couldn’t walk and became bed ridden within a month.
She underwent urgent surgery as the disk was risking permanent damage to her sciatic nerve.
The surgery went well they relieved the bone , and removed part of the disk which had stuck to the nerve it was touch and go as to how much damage had been done to the mylar sheath.
The improvement was instantaneous she wept as when she came round from the surgery as the pain was gone
Within a few hours she called for the nurse and asked how she was going to go to the toilet with all the monitors hooked up the nurse said You can just try walking - more tears as she was able to walk again.
It took a long time for the nerve to heal, there is some permanent damage , she has a flappy foot- "Foot drop"
she's done 48 marathons/ultras since the surgery!
Do it .
(www.wondermummyquestforthevest100marathons.wordpress.com she'll tell you all about it)
Any chance it'll be done with an epidural [i.e. 'local'], or is it definitely a general anaesthetic? That might be regarded as a 'keyhole' procedure.
Surgeon said the op takes about an hour, a cut in the back, cut/pull the muscle/tissue out of the way, then carefully go in on the right side of the splinal cord. Then pull n cut the tissue out from the disc area in front of the spinal cord, then move to the left side of the splinal cord and do the same on the left side.
I didn't have bladder control problems but the Doc did prescribe Viagra, "Y'know, just in case". Dashed decent of the fellow. I still have floppy foot but everything else is pretty good apart from some sciatica, permanent damage to the nerves for the right side little toes and an inability to lay flat on my stomach without massive cramps. 18 months of 3x400mg Nurofen and 8x30/500 Cocodamol daily.View attachment 125229
