I'll be working through an agency but not even paid by them, rediculous, too many middle men skimming their bit.
That's called having a job....If you're happy lining other people's pockets, go for it.
That's called having a job....
It's esentially a £11.85ph temporary job, I'm under no illusions and not fooled by the advertised £15ph, any company that pays employees has costs above the hourly rate to cover emplyers NI, apprenticeship levy, holiday pay and time running a payrol, that cost is just pushed to another company so those poor multi billion dollar international companies don't have to suffer the burden of actually employing anyone.
I'll be sure that everyone I speak to at this job is aware of the effective hourly rate compared to PAYE when being payed through an umbrella company.
Basically it's just a very dodgy means of avoiding proper employer responsibility.
So, you sort of have a job, but in truth, you don't.
It's also self-defence from HMRC rules. If an employment agency does not follow them they are responsible for the adjustment, in fact nowadays the client of the agency (the person paying the agency for supplying casual labour) can also be liable for the adjustment if the rules of tax/payment have been bent or broken. I don't know the details but I know that many of the large contractors absolutely will not take on agency staff unless they are with the agency on a PAYE basis.
No-one wants to risk being liable for x years worth of back-taxes for dozens or hundreds of agency staff employed.
Sadly it's the way these days...eventually only public sector will have employment rights...and descent pensions I reckon.
Everyone else....the attitude seems to be "who cares".
If you have a choice pick a descent umbrella that you know aren't going to mess you about.
What jobs are you looking at?
