Anyone got a GYS smart mig 162

hi, new to forum. Ive been looking at buying a mig for genral garage use and Diy, was looking at the clark 151te.

But after finding this forum and looking at the link store I have seen the smart mig 162.

Does anyone own this model? would like some feed back.

I want to use gas cover as need clean welds on motor cycle frame work ect. Its what im used to, well 30years ago anyway lol.

Never used one, I think a couple of members have them and seem more than happy with them.

Put a search in on the forum search bar, something will show up.

Yes I have the 162 , and like flapdisk, I love it. I have just been hammering it and it's performed excellently.
I just fitted a longer torch to make my current job easier.
Might get a GYS tattoo.

I mainly use mine for car bodywork and at that it's awesome, recently I made a useful gizmo (Thread on here) where I needed to weld four and five mill thick steel, so I changed the wire to .8 and selected the required setting. Perfect first time, that's the beauty of it, you don't have to remember anything, you just look at the front and select the metal type and thickness, wire thickness and it tells you what to set the switches to, sometimes you just need to trim the wire speed, but so far that's all.

That's what I found as well. I am doing a job where I would have used my MMA, but the GYS breezed it.
Then I had a lighter repair job where I would have used TIG, but a quick tweak and it did that as well.
To be honest, I'm sure any decent mig would perform as well , but I went for the GYS from weldequips description.,and I am well satisfied.

Feed back. OK I went for the cheeper deal. I bought the clarke 160tm got my self a gas bottle 5% argon. Not done any welding in over 25years, but once I got it dialed into a nice setting I was off.

Not going to put any photos up of welds cos we all know if you want impressive looking welds you go Tig. But in saying that after the first couple of run's I was welding tubeing at any angle.

Unit does the job well my only critique would be the torch length " to short "and the trigger a bit rubbish. Other than that Im happy with my buy
Total cost. Clarke tm160 was £288.00 inc regulator / Bottle of gas inc deposit £50. / 5kg reel wire £15. this was done on a vat free day.

I would like to thank the guy from Weld equip who was very honest with me , but was just a little over my budget.Weather I regret not investing the extra I dont know. I dont do a great deal of welding but that may change now ive bought one lol.

sounds good, and you can always change the torch laterwhen your budget allows, at least you are welding and thats the main thing.
Well done on posting feedback/conclusion . Very frustrating for folks who get involved in threads to have the outcome left hanging.
