Anyone from Coventry who could collect an item for me if I win an auction?

Hi all,

I have a favour to ask - I am bidding on a backpack leaf blower which ends this coming weekend and the seller lists it as collection only. Seller based in Coventry and I am in NI.

Is there anyone on here who would have a little spare time to assist with collecting and boxing the item please? It would need a large cardboard box and not much of any dismantling so easy enough that way.

Ends 3pm Sunday 20th and I'm sure would have a day or two after that also for collection window.

I am happy to compensate for your time and fuel etc. I can also arrange a courier my end to uplift the parcel from your house for convenience such as Parcelforce or Evri. So one trip to collect sort of thing.

I may not win the auction but I am going to try anyway and if I do would be great to know someone would be able to assist other there

The ebay seller has eventually replied to my message and agreed he can box the item for me if I arrange a courier my end so this one should be sorted.

Hopefully ebay bidders don't bid it up to silly money!

The collection only thing puts off a lot of buyers but I've also some will allow courier pick up or even post if you ask nicely. I've also had a couple of good deals because they were out in the sticks and collection only.

Yes it seems like a particularly poor sales strategy. Very limiting for the seller.

Not really, stops scams like using the item and then saying it does not work on opening the box. Collection only, you can show the buyer the item working and all the bits are present, The seller will never get Ebay in your corner anymore unfortunately.

Good points. This particular item has a seized engine. And I'd say most "buyers" who win a bid on an item on ebay they have to go and collect would have a high rate of not showing up.

But yes the system would have advantages when applied and used correctly. But they would reach a higher buyer pool by offering postage there is no doubt about that.

Interesting, had a look at their site but it looks like a local courier so likely only good if both addresses are in a small radius.

I set a max price, bid last seconds and lost the auction. It was for a nearly new but seized BR700 Stihl blower. Considering it needs a new crank and piston at least I wasn't going over £210 + post etc on top. Someone paid more than that so I hope they get on well with it. My BR600 is probably better for wet leaves anyway as it has higher MPH so not too bothered either way.

Just logged on to see if the stihl guru won the auction, unlucky there is always a next time on ebay, I get a bit impulsive at times only to see the same item with in a few weeks later, if your looking I am sure you will get another opportunity.
