Anyone ever owned a Maserati BiTurbo?

I may have the chance to buy one for £300 ($600). Is it a massive money pit? I’ve always liked the look of them and it would be cool to own a Maserati

Any actual advice appreciated, I’ve read all the articles about it being the worst car they made...

I have the same attitude. Always wanted mazerati and if I got offered one for that price I would have done their arm off and worried about logistics after.

Probably make money just buying it and advertising it properly.

Just buy it and do one of those Youtube 'all that is wrong with my £300 Maserati' worst comes to the worst you can always turn the seats and engine block into an occasional table and chairs.

Any that did will be in the glue pot and can be used to stick the thing back together. A mate has a Quattroporte and that thing is a money pit, has averaged out at 7k a year for maintenance and repairs in the last five years to keep it on the road. If you cant take a joke dont join in

Not the same, but I looked at a 911S back in the 70's Slight biff on one front corner, but I could have buffed that out. Exhaust obviously needed fixing, so I checked prices.....WHAT?

The absolute worst car I ever owned, and I have had a few (not all Maserati's thankfully). For £300 it is an interesting toy, but if it needs ANYTHING, even a light bulb, it will be the expensive one.
Another commentator somewhere out there on the Interweb said it far more eloquently than I could, but to paraphrase: It wasn't so much the erratic All or Nothing acceleration, often unbidden it was the switching of lanes, totally without warning and usually at high speed on the M62 that caused me to get rid of it. Before it killed me or someone else.
No doubt whatsoever, in the game of One Upmanship "had to park the Maserati round the back, no spaces" takes some beating. But the car was a real chore to own. I was told by more than one garage owner that if I ever took it there again they would not speak to me again, ever!

Incidentally, I am looking out for a Maserati Quattroporte and that is a car I will own and probably my last "toy car". Had everything else and frankly they are all an indulgence.

It will be a money pit and it's entirely possible there will be parts you just can't get. You need to look at how much good ones are worth and make a choice. That said surely you could make a profit if you break it for parts. Not sure what the market is like in NZ but I guess it would be more valuable in Europe.

I've got a friend who does bodywork on classic Maserati, he restored the bodywork on this A6G now owned by Jay Kay,

for £300 he would probably buy that Bi-turbo without even looking at it but he is likely to know someone who needs the parts or a car. He had a Bi-Turbo Ghibli a few years back, sold it on ebay and it didn't make as much money as he had hoped. He then got really lucky because when the reg number was checked it showed as an Austin Metro on the DVLA even though the log book was correct and the buyer pulled out. Right around the same time he had guy phone up who was looking for the exact colour combo he had.

A bloke I know had a Quattroporte for a few months, I think that says it all. Everything it had done to it cost £2000 at a time.

If it runs, has the NZ equiv of our MOT/Road Tax, drive it until it objects [which it will] then proceed as above. Then, later in life, you'll be able to honestly say "I remember when I had the Maserati....."

About 15 years ago, I bid on a LHD one on the 'Bay which was listed in Italy. Looked in excellent condition and had been in a collection. When the auction ended I was in Spain golfing and had a Master Plan had I won it. My mate could take all the gear back and I'd have got a ferry to Italy, picked it up and driven it back to the UK.

I missed it by two bids, which on reflection was probably just as well [#wipesforehead] - I still think it would have been one of life's defining experiences though.

Seriously though if you have somewhere to store it it will go up in value and as others have said the spare parts if you brake it will return more than £300

I was going to buy the 3200, when it came out circa 2001. £69k. Went to an independent dealer to look at one a few months old. It was 47k said it all really.

A few yrs ago a mate bought a local Quattroporte. It spent more time on his drive as he was lucky to

No, I've never owned, but gave owning one some serious thought when they started getting down to banger money.
Yes, it would be a massive money pit if you don't source alternate parts, I've no doubt.
