Anybody up on Asus Laptops

Have been having problems with my laptop for a while. Initially had problems with a flickering screen when on battery only. Screen was perfect on mains adaptor.
After a bit of research on the net, somebody on youtube offered a solution to the problem with faulty connection of the cable which connects the main board to the screen (not ribbon). Checked this out & it seemed fine but screen still flickered on battery.
Thinking my battery might be starting to fail have invested in a new battery. This has had an unexpected result, the screen doesn’t come on at all on battery but still works perfectly ok on mains adapter.
Any thoughts.

What does it show for the battery/charging in the bottom right hand corner ?
Was this a clone battery or refurbished ?
Note some batterys have an ID circuit that the laptop can see.

Tried checking what it says on the link, on my laptop you don’t get a choice of refresh rates it 60hz on adapter or battery.

Note some batterys have an ID circuit that the laptop can see.

The charge indicator is showing 100% after the adapter is disconnected & 100%, charging on the adapter. It’s a clone battery.
Interestingly the display is now showing again on battery, dim & flickering as before changing the battery

Could be the fluorescent tube(s) in the screen or the inverter board. Both in the lid of the laptop. On mains the voltage may be just a bit higher to the inverter masking the problem. In time the screen may flicker on mains also. Not too difficult to replace parts but a bit fiddly.

Its probably the inverter board wanting more power than the battery is supplying.

as above it could well be the backlight / the driver for it

you can change the brightness of the screen.. it's probably set to bright on mains and lower on battery... if something's on it's way out running on low might make it worse

try turning the brightness up and see if it helps

looks like win7? power options are in the control panel - or you might be able to click on the battery/charging icon and do it from there :-)

Asus had a big (multi year) run of dicky backlight tubes and drivers - I've refused to buy one for quite some time because of it - so I'd go with the above.

Given that the screen brightness is OK & doesn't flicker on the AC adapter would that imply the screen illumination tube is OK & the fault lies with the inverter?

Note that screens are quite often the same (the glass panel) across many manufactures (as they are made by other companies) and so you should find the same inverter and lamp is used by many companies. I recently replaced an Advent screen (cracked) with one listed as for a Sony.

if you're replacing the inverter you might as well replace the tube as well

they're only cheap, and you'll be close to it when you swap the inverter anyway

they're both easy enough to do... just lots of tiny screws and little plastic clips to get through to get to them

It’s TP550L transformer flip computer, based on the information provided it looks like taking it apart to find the part no is the order of the day. Thanks for the information

I have seen a few laptops that didn't work after being dismantled and re-assembled

i have done meny screens on latops just buy removing the screws around the screen and poping off the besel around the screen 2 to 4 screwss earther side to remmove the screen lean it farward and remove the tape and pull out the screen

these pics should give a bit of info for what you need to look for the numbers on the white stickers is what you need but generally if it's the right size screen the connector is the same size and is in the right place on the back of the screen it will work only other thing to look for if it's led or the older type
