My dad's old 83/84 registered Tough Terrain forklift is needing some servicing, but the questions have been raised as to what fluids should go in the transmission and brakes.
It's one of the later Tough Terrains that used JCB running gear with a Perkins engine (from what I know, I'd say it's pretty much all 3CX ). The only manuals we've ever been able to get for it, are for the earlier version with totally different running gear and engine.
We've always just used ATF in the transmission, but I have no idea if that is correct, as I've learnt some JCBs of that era used JCB special transmission fluid.
Brakes have never been touched in the time we've had it, and somebody finally noticed the reservoir is empty. From what I can work out, JCBs of that age used light hydraulic oil. I did crack a nipple to get a drop out, but it's black, and indeterminable if it's DOT or oil.
So does anybody know much about these things?
