Anybody got a Quantum kit car or know about them?

I'm thinking about getting one because I have Fiesta parts but don't know anything about Quantums. Do they have a proper chassis for one? Or, are they like those Banhams: fibreglass panels over a rusty old car?
I want to get a car that will last me out and that I can repair; so, no Goddamn electronics. My Series III Land Rover would be ok but a bit heavy on fuel and it's not getting any cheaper is it?
Any suggestions?

They're all GRP monocoques, some have a steel front subframe, others have the strut turrets as part of the shell. I like the hard top versions, and sound cars can be bought relatively cheaply.

Yes, they seem to be the cheapest Fiesta based kit cars around, that got me wondering why they sell for less than others such as Sylva? I want a hard-top too, it's got to be a practical everyday car and last for a potential 20 years at least...

They're cheap because they're kitcars; get in one and unless it's been trimmed by Thrupp and Maberly it's obvious it isn't a production car. Nowt wrong with that, but most folk want homogenous blobs that start when the key is turned and come with a 5 year warranty.

So is Sylva a kit car but you never see them sell as cheap as I've seen Quantums sell for, I was just wondering why that was?

They are cheap because they are fiesta based and therefore wrong wheel drive. They are also a bit long in the tooth now (I assume you aren't looking at H4i's as they are newer and most certainly not cheap). You mention a hard top so I assume you are looking at a Quantum Coupe. Condition also plays a part as with any car - there are rough neglected ones out there which are what you are likely to see on ebay and similar. The really nice examples will still fetch good money but will as a low volume car to tart with you won't see them as often and when they are sold they will be advertised in specialist publications or at specialist dealers.

Which Sylvas are you looking at? The only nearly comparable one I'm aware of is the Jester which is a much later car than most of the Quantums you'll be looking at and I'm fairly certain will have gone through SVA (or maybe even IVA) as they weren't around before it. That means they have had to go through a far stricter test to hit the road and whilst this doesn't mean a given car actually is better built than a car that was registered pre-SVA it's an implication that is in most people's heads and therefore it's another factor that affects the value.

I do know a guy who runs a Quantum convertible as a daily driver quite happily and as you say they are simple enough that there's not that much to go wrong with them and what does go wrong is pretty easy to fix.
