Any wood working plane experts lurking?
A few weeks ago I was given a shoe box with a rusty, dismantled Stanley Smoothing plane, in bits.
It is now cleaned up, rust free. Just missing 2 washers. They disappeared during the de-rusting. I assume they are some of the flakes at the bottom of the tank.
I am having issues setting up the cap iron to the blade.
I tested the blade after a quick hone and it does cut well when held like a chisel.
I set the Cap 1mm from the blade edge. Is that correct?
Were in relationship to the base and the blade does the “Frog” go. No matter where I set it, I end up terrible cuts, or I have to wind the blade so far it tears the wood.
Any help or pointers I will be great full. It is too good a plane to junk.
Yes I know the base says Bailey but it has Stanley Lever cap.
