Any winchist`s in the house?

Just fitted an ex wd 24volt Ramsey winch under my low loader trailer and need to rig this up to a relay pack, a bit confused as to what the extra wires are for. There seems to be on extra heavy lead and two small ones coming out of the winch motor. Googled this to death and cant find anything like it.

Anyone?

I am not worried about saving/using the plug.

Could the two small wires be for the motor's field connection? If it's not a permanent magnet motor, the field would need reversing relative to the main + & - connection to reverse the direction of rotation.

Any use? it seems to fit stu's theory that the field connections are broken out to control direction ->

That would explain the two small wires but what about the four battery cable size leads? The single one is just bolted down to earth but the other three are connected to the motor

Looking at the diagram @MrFluffy posted I'd say the single one is the -ve to the motor and the other 3 are A, F1 and F2 in the diagram above and I'm guessing that these 3 all go to that multipin plug you're holding.

you should have 4 largish wires from motor 1 is earth 2 are the field windings in diagram f1 and f2 and the loop which is then in diagram designated as A. motor direction is determined by solenoids as diagram . on some MOD stuff there are 2 more small wires which are for a sensor which is like a feedback or motion sensor to confirm winch motor is turning. as such only the 4 big wires are needed to work hope that makes sense.
