as the title says really. have to say, this is`nt my doing, it`s just causing a little concern and i`m wondering if anyone shares my views.
basically,it`s a car lift at a place of work. it previously cracked (hence the new welds. there are more than the pics show) and it`s now cracking again along the gusset plate, but can it just be welded up and put back into service and would it need the relevant safety checks ?? and if anyone can enlighten me on the relevant procedure, that would be great btw.
sorry there`s not more info, but i don`t really want to say too much at the moment, (small world and all that),just wanted to know what people thought regarding it`s use.
meant to add..... the cracked/painted welds are original.
Not sure of the the rules about repair, but its probably started to go due to abuse, overloading...
It looks fairly new? Cant get a replacement arm from the makers? Manufacture defect.
I'd put money on it ,that the weld was done by a fitter. No sign of grinding out the cracked weld just cleaning up the surface to be welded, by a mig that is normally used for car bodywork and laying a bead on top with a mig welder that might be 180/200 amp max.
CORRECT.. although it has been ground out slightly.
apparently ins insp/engineer has seen it (during an routine insp. NOT by invite to inspect the `repair`) and was`nt very impressed, but i don`t know the outcome. it`s still in use
runnach,it`s `more welds than the pics show` not more cracks. i was`nt very clear there, sorry.
