Any views on these?

I'm looking for a set of grinding stones for the recently-acquired die grinder and spotted these on the 'Bay. I'm aware that Nielsen aren't top drawer but does the Collective reckon [or have any experience of] these for home use?

My experience of those type of small stones is that they turn to dust quicker than they remove any material, I just use carbide burrs in mine now, but I suppose it depends on the application.

even quality makes dont last long t cheap enough i supose if u need diffrent sizes . ok for fine removal of material whereas a burr will dig in and cut

I use carbide burrs for most things - but I do use these abrasive (disapearing things) sometimes.

I also use small flap wheels in an air die grinder sometimes for cleaning things up - inside holes in alloy housings. These work well!

I use roloc pads and flap drums as well.

Also a wire knot brush but that’s a satanic contraption and you don’t want to be in a place where you need one!!

Again good burs ,,, not the chinesium ones ,, they are nearly as bad as the stones.

stones and burs both have there uses same as die grinders and a dremel

The ebay set looks like you only get a few corrundrum and all the same shape (pink) ones, which are generally the best for normal steel. I wouldnt recommend it.

I got most of my larger stones from Zoro, similar price, lots of shapes.

They are generally ok but quite a few needed to be dressed before using - out of the box some were unbalanced enough to border on dangerous at rated speeds, but once dressed they are fine.

The bigger ones will grind quite fast but need respect. If one shattered there is a good amount of wieght there!

Nothing wrong with chinese ones, more important to get one suited to the job! 6mm head Is a good size where as bigger ones can be extremely grabby and kick. Chinese seem to be available more in the bigger sizes.

I find they tend to cut well for a very short period of time , but seem to clog easily , even when chalked . Id rather have one good burr than a box of cheap ones. Then again I cut steel a lot and expect performance from tools , once they smoke they are scrap. Unless I hit underseal then have to wire brush the burr with brake cleaner to get them going again.

With good Burrs you will wonder how you ever got by without a die grinder ,,, with cheap ones you will wonder why you ever bought it.

I don't use the grinding die wheels. They just turn to dust. Waste of money.
Still use the same few burrs I've had for years. I've only had one burr crap out and die. Only time I would use a grinding die wheel is for a smoother finish inside a petrol tank or something. Like a really awkward "painting a house through a letterbox" type thing, anything else isn't worth the time changing the wheels Imo.

I use them a lot for digging out rust in the last corner in the far reaches of awkward places ,, ideal for where outriggers meet chassis parts tight to floors etc ,, or for turning awkward little holes into decent holes with good edges before patching ,, and trust me ,,, they soon find the good metal as everything that isnt good just vanishes.

Thanks all who replied. Looks like I'll be saving my ££s - I have a selection of burrs but just thought these might be less 'severe'.

For what its worth I have found that even the cheapies can last if you dont lean on them.
