I’ve finally got the gear but absolutely no idea and my brain seems to scramble while watching the ‘how to’ videos on YouTube, I really need to be able to tig weld 2-3mm aluminium chequer plate mainly outside corner joints but after giving it a go on a few offcuts I think I need to pay out and learn off someone in the know, anyone know to any tuition classes plz closer to Walsall the better , I’ve set my new r-tech 210 up as per video’s and non stop tweaked with not very good results, I’m using i don’t know how many years old bottle of Pure argon that I come across 3 parts full do you think this might be part of the problem as well as my lack of tig knowledge of course!!
Don't beat yourself up so much. Set the machine to 30/70 If you have not got a foot pedal set the amps to something comfortable. Take a bit of plate and use it all --lay weld next to weld then weld on top of weld. Most important is clean the metal of oxides. The oxide melts at a higher temp than the Aluminium so this will help with consistency. Take it steady -Arc up ,pool, dip, move then repeat. Once you get something going that looks good it's just a matter of repetitive action. You filler wire hand will be slow so practice feeding the rod. Get a dice and move it along a table keeping the same face. Tig welding ain't learnt in a day but one day it'll come.
