But why is the bark so different to each other on these Beech trees? (Pic now added of other Beech tree).

Age, the first pic looks like an immature tree.

The second photo in your link looks just like the original I posted in the OP. It`s surprising how the bark can differ. I suppose relying on the leaves is a more accurate method of identification. I`ve learnt something else on here.
